Accomplishments

Empower Orphans has already made large strides towards creating an environment conducive for the learning and well being for orphaned children living at the Bal Kunj Orphanage and under-privileged children at Shree Geeta Public School.  Both these institutions are located in Northern India.

 

 

Summer 2009

Over the past year, Empower Orphans broadened the scope of their focus to also include underprivileged children.  A school for underpriviledged children called Shree Geeta Public School located in Yamuna Nagar, India was identified as requiring assistance.  Students attending this school are from poverty stricken households (earning approximately $40-$60 / month), with families barely able to pay their school fees.   Often, children have to drop out of school until parents are once again able to afford school fees – a mere $100 a year.  The school has 360 chil

Temperatures during the summer months in the plains of northern India are exceedingly high, melting the tar on the road. As the orphans have to walk to school, many of them bare feet, Empower Orphans provided each child with a pair of sandals.

Winter 2007

To combat the bitter winters experienced by Northern India, Empower Orphans donated blankets and sweaters to the 200 children living at Bal Kunj.  The library started in 2006 was expanded by providing more books.  All the children were also given food and lunch boxes.

In 2006, a library was started at the orphanage, providing each child an opportunity to learn. Since then, the library has been expanded upon each year, so that fewer children have to share a set of books. Furthermore, technical books have been added to the library, enabling older children to pursue a technical vocation.
